Anna, commenting on my previous post re Rape Crisis Scotland’s Not Ever campaign, has pointed out this fantastic campaign from Wales.
One Step Too Far is geared at raising awareness of, and challenging attitudes towards, abusive behaviour towards women. From the Welsh Assembly Government site:
“We want Wales to be a self confident, prosperous healthy nation which is fair to all. To achieve this we must not tolerate the enduring social problems of domestic abuse, sexual harassment, rape, forced marriage, trafficking, honour crimes (including murder) and genital mutilation.
In Wales we want to develop a culture that challenges and questions abusive behaviour. Our new campaign “one step too far” which follows an ordinary woman through her day, challenges the attitudes behind abuse and violence against women.”
And here’s the video:
The Scottish one is much more effective imo.
You should have seen the front paper of the local newspapers here (Wales) last week. One had a picture of a battered woman’s face close up with the story of how the local police had failed her. The other had a picture of support breast-feeding campaigners with the title ‘Yummy Mummies’
Hi earwicga
I think they’re both pretty effective, and certainly a step up from some of the stuff we’ve seen here recently, like the “Don’t get in an unlicensed cab you stupid woman or it’ll be your own fault if the bad man gets you” or whatever the fuck those posters said campaign.
As for “Yummy mummies”, gahhh, don’t even get me started on that crap!
I actually quite like that advert; it points out to men that their “just a bit of a laugh” is not just a single incident in a woman’s day, but part of an ongoing onslaught of abuse she is receiving every damn day.
I like the ad too. Awesome.
Don’t get in an unlicensed cab you stupid woman or it’ll be your own fault if the bad man gets you
I think that was the EXACT slogan actually Cath. Obviously drafted by someone who had never heard of John Worboys. Oh and I just put ‘sex offender gets taxi licence’ into google. This was the top result, but there are lots more.
