…to say please bear with me if this blog goes through a bit of a quiet spell over the next few weeks. Normal service will be resumed at some point. Honest.
It’s not that I’ve run out of things to blog about, or that I’ve suddenly gone off the idea of gobbing off about anything that takes my fancy. Oh no. Some things will never change, and I’m in this for the long haul. It’s just that as those of you who follow my twitter stream will be aware, this last week has been a tough one to say the least, and other things, real life things, have had to take priority over writing and keeping up with the www.
And for those who have no idea what I’m going on about, some brief details.
Last weekend my best friend’s partner and a dear friend of mine was rushed into hospital suffering from respiratory failure. Ian’s had COPD for a number of years now, so a medical emergency at some point wasn’t entirely unexpected, but I don’t think it’s something you can ever really prepare yourself for either. Anyway, in the early hours of Monday morning the decision was taken to put him on a ventilator, as there was no way he was going to survive beyond the next few hours without it.
So on Monday I did the three train journey from here into the depths of Suffolk to be with L, and there I stayed until Thursday evening when Dave came and picked me up from the hospital and brought me home.
Ian’s still on the ventilator. He’s stable though, and we’re cautiously optimistic that now he’s had a tracheostomy he’ll gradually start to improve as they begin weaning him off the vent.
So that’s what’s been going on this week. It’s why things have suddenly gone a bit quiet here, and why they might remain a bit quiet over the coming weeks. My apologies in advance.
And just in case I don’t get to say it nearer the time. I wish all the readers of this blog a very merry xmas and a happy New Year. Thanks for sticking with me, and for making this place my very favourite place to be on the Internet.
