Even though I’ve got a stinking cold, even though rail travel is going to be at best chaotic this weekend, and even though it’s going to be freezing bloody cold and possibly snowing, I’m still going to the Reclaim the Night march on Saturday evening.
Assemble at 6pm, Whitehall Place, London.
Hope to see you there.
Hope you didn’t make yourself too ill Cath. I didn’t go as it was in That London. And I go enough for ‘meetings’ as it is.
No, I was fine (although it was freezing bloody cold as predicted). I warmed myself up by being one of the evil anti-porn anti-sex work feminists who opted to join in the fun sing-along outside Spearmint Rhino – I’m sure the video of me singing (?) my lungs out will turn up on YouTube before too long, then everyone can point and tut at me to their heart’s content.
But just for the record, for all those currently complaining about how mean it was of us to yell at sex-workers at RTN. We weren’t. The protests about Spearmint Rhino and other such establishments are aimed at the men who frequent them, not the women who work in them, so chill out. Personally I think it’s far more shameful that on a protest about male violence against women some so-called feminists chose to defend such a place…..
Ah yes. I wonder (as I’ve said elsewhere) how many of those defending ‘sex workers rights’ have any experience of sex work at all.
Yeah, I didn’t go either to That London because you need a bank loan for the train ticket.
Anyways, well said Cath.
Unfortunately I missed the march too, due to an overload of stress and work.
The pro-sex work lot are thoroughly disingenuous. Why, on a march against male violence against women, would you support Spearmint Rhino? WTF? I used to live around that area (literally 2 mins away from the ‘gentlemen’s’ club), and I can tell you confidently that it was *not* a female-friendly area. I’ve lost count of the number of times I was harrassed by men during the short time I lived there. I can’t even begin to imagine how much worse it must have been for the women inside the club.
