Abortion Rights protest next Tuesday
Posted on October 18, 2008
I’ve got a new piece up today on Comment is Free about Gordon Brown’s attempts to limit the debating time for next week’s third reading of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology bill, and the implications this will have for the progressive amendments that have recently been added to it.
This is probably the last opportunity we’ll have for years to liberalise abortion law in the UK, and the final chance ever for the women of Northern Ireland to see their abortion law brought into line with ours.
If the rumours are true, and Brown really is intent on blocking the Northern Ireland amendment, then we need to make sure that we get the pro-choice message across loud and clear at Tuesday evening’s Abortion Rights demo.
That’s Tuesday 21st October. 5.30pm onwards, Old Palace Yard, outside Parliament, St Stephen’s entrance.
See you there.
