Trigger Warning: Violence

There is no excuse for this. None.

It doesn’t matter if the perpetrator was having a bad day, or if, as a police spokesperson is quoted as saying: “these are tough times and I am sure that he was upset at something.” This is irrelevant.

It doesn’t matter if the girl swore at him, disrespected him, made him look small in front of his kids by challenging his ‘authority’. Again, this is irrelevant.

It doesn’t matter if by standing up to him she somehow threatened his masculinity or injured his male pride.

None of this matters: none of it is relevant.

And if you watch this and find yourself thinking afterwards “I wonder what she said to provoke him?” you need to ask yourself why you’re trying to find an excuse for this man.

Because there is no excuse.

There is no excuse when an adult punches a child, and there is no excuse when a man punches a woman.

Hat-tip to Renee over at Womanist Musings: everyone should head over there and read her eloquent and passionate post.
